The conception of Jeff's B-4 Sauce was about 30 years ago when I was working for a California company, based in Muleshoe, Texas. The "Big Boss" would fly into town every other week. After finishing with work, we would go out to dinner, and our first choice was always a big juicy steak. The Country Club and other local options got old, so one week we decided to try grilling steaks in my backyard.

We dug through the cabinets looking for seasonings that we thought would be good on our steaks. We set the spices on the cabinet and ended up sprinkling a little bit of everything on the steaks. Much to our amazement, the steaks turned out great! They were so good in fact, that the next time the "Big Boss" came to town, we repeated the process.

The combination of spices and seasonings we were using seemed to work pretty well; however, sometimes I would be short on one spice or get too much of another seasoning - so there just wasn't any consistency. I was never sure exactly how they would turn out. After cooking steaks for my friends, and trying to duplicate the process, I finally decided to make up a little recipe so I could be a little more consistent.

After refining the combination of flavors and being able to replicate it consistently, my friends started asking for the recipe, and I can tell you that they are no closer to getting that recipe today than they were 30 years ago. I did, however, mix the dry spices so they could combine them with the liquid I gave them, and be able to cook their own steaks.

This went on for several years. When I moved to Lubbock in 1990, the demand for the sauce was greater than ever, so I started mixing the sauce up myself. I bought bottles of one of the liquid flavors I use in the sauce and had the young ladies that worked in my office actually empty the bottles and clean them out so I could fill them with my spices and seasonings — giving birth to "Jeff's B-4 Sauce". My personally bottled sauce made great Christmas and birthday gifts.

As the years went by, I changed the name of the sauce at least six times, trying to find that catchy name that would help sell the sauce. One day as we were brainstorming, one of the gals was mixing the sauce and the name happened! It completed our slogan "B-4 you cook, add some of Jeff's B-4 Sauce". I hope you enjoy my sauce!
